In-Home Respite Service
LAP Respite Care Providers go into the family home to provide the individualized care required for your family member. Families schedule for the days and hours they desire. The Respite Care Providers will follow the care plan directions to provide the specialized care required by the individual and as directed by the family. Families have a choice of in-home services and of care providers. More than one care provider is trained in each home to help ensure continuity of care.
Weekend Respite House Services
The LAP Respite House, which opened in 1995, is located in a quiet neighborhood, next to a Lansing park and within walking distance of a county park. Licensed by the State of Michigan, the LAP Respite House provides a comprehensive daily, out-of-home program, for up to four children or adults at a time. Weekends (5pm Friday until 5pm Sunday) are scheduled several months in advance. Sometimes the LAP Respite House is open during the week. The care plan developed by the Program Managers and the family is also used at the LAP Respite House for the trained Respite Care Providers to follow. The weekend program at the Respite House has trained care providers on duty 24 hours. There are also opportunities for the Respite House to be used during the week days for individualized care and specialized training.
LAP After School Program
The LAP After School Program is a State Licensed Day Care Center for children ages 5 to 26 years, who attend Special Education classes in their primary school. Children may attend the LAP After School Program Monday through Friday from the time school ends at 2:45 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. With the parents, the LAP Program Director develops individual program goals for each child as they learn through participation in daily activites. Activities involve large and small motor activities, socialization, group play, daily living skills, reading, and games. Sancks and outdoor play are also a part of the children's every day schecule. LAP maintains a child to care provider ratio of three to one.
LAP Autism Project (Coming soon)
The LAP Autism Project is an early intervention program designed to help 3-5 year old children, diagnosed with Autism, learn age appropriate:
- fine/gross motor skills
- cognitive development
- social skills
This program fosters patience and provides positive reinforcement. Each child's program will emphasize the child's strengths, rather than weaknesses, to build new skills. Staff will begin teaching skills to help with peer relationship building. The goal of the program is to help children who have Autism to be more prepared when they enter into their local elementary school programs.
